After being inspired initially through the shadows she observed on the grass of the trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to create a method that does not portray the subject in a 2-dimensional image. The object becomes a representation of its own, while the canvas is carrying the painterly interpretation of the object. This is especially true in the case of a living item or something perishable, such as fruit or people. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only piece from her work that is preserved is her photograph. The painting and the photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated that the end result is nothing but a two-dimensional flat space which is able to achieve trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is discernible only within certain places, such as near the eyes or in hair. Meade sometimes integrates her paintings into the 3-dimensional world that surrounds them. They can interact in the world she has created for herself. By doing so, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between photography, painting and performing.
